Ran across a couple of interesting reviews (fairly current) of the Model 19's today--my favorite speakers for home audio bar none.....

The 19 is sure cool looking with many great reviews.. I wonder if a new version could be built that is alike to the old 19? I guess the new GPA 416-8c driver would be the right woofer, have no idea which one of GPA's tweeter's or x-over would be best etc... That could be a really neat project to see modernized so to speak, a re-vamped 19

I know that I am in the minority on this, but the 19 never appealed to me. It had what I call the 'Club Sound' - More Bass than clarity. And a lot of folks prefer the 'Big' 'Club Sound'. Maybe it is the music that I prefer. The small Jazz trios, female vocals, guitar solos... etc -

I actually preferred the Klipschorn over the 19. The 19 is a 2 way and the Khorn is a 3 way. With that said the Khorn midrange is the weak link, so I replaced the Khorn Midrange with an Altec horn and Driver. So, I feel I have the best of both worlds here.

Regarding the Klipschorn -

My old friend, Dr. John K. Hilliard, when talking about the Klipschorn, was fond of saying with a glint in his eye - "You know - if you listen carefully, you'll find it not only doubles, it triples!"

That's interesting. Maybe the 19s had been modified or had bad caps or grounds? It was in the late 70s when I first heard a klipschorn and a model 19. Of coarse I choose the one I prefered because I thought it had the greatest clarity. Maybe the Klipschorns I heard had been modified or bad caps.
I would though like to hear the mods on your korn!

When I bought my model 15's about 30 years ago I too listened to the Klipschorn and LaScala's. And to say the Klipschorn and LaScala's had a weak midrange was an understatement. It was downright horrible. A few years later a guy I worked with had a pair of LaScala's and we did a side-by-side comparison. We played his favorite album. And one song when played through my 15's...he had to stop and play a certain section over and over again...back and forth between the 15's and LaScala's. There was a faint bell being played in the background only heard on the 15's...On the LaScala's you literally couldn't even hear it...it was that muffled. He was so impressed with the musicality of the 15's...he sold his LaScala's and bought a new pair of Model 19's....and never regretted it.

That era Klipsch speakers you never new who made their drivers. Their base...while plenty of punch and loud..always sounded muddy to me. This was the end of the disco era....and whenever I walked into a disco that had Klipsch speakers I knew it long before I ever saw them..The lack of good solid deep base along with the almost non-existent mid-range was a dead giveaway.

That's funny I always thought the weak link in the Khorn was the bass woofer,and the mids,the only Klipsches I feel that had any kind of bass is the Cornwall,so what does that leave you a Model 19 I found to me that they are very shouty,all Treble (Khorn) and didn't have the bass that the 19 has the kind that punches you in the chest or you can feel but with clarity.For me the only speakers that had the clarity that I was looking for was "ALTEC LANSING"

Well, lumping all Klipsch speakers together and claiming their "base (sic)" had a muddy sound is non-information. I was only comparing the Klipschorn to the Model 19. I doubt any disco that you were in had Klipschorns, and if they did they would not have been properly placed into proper corners to develop the superb bass that they are capable of! Most people don't know how to set up Khorns, and they are pretty fussy as far as set up.
